Alpe D'Huez

£100.00

This original watercolour captures the majestic Alpe d’Huez is one of the most legendary climbs in the Tour de France. Situated in the French Alps, it is famous for its 21 hairpin bends, each named after a past stage winner. The climb itself is about 13.8 km long, with an average gradient of 8.1%, making it both brutally difficult and spectacular.

It first featured in the Tour in 1952, when Fausto Coppi won the stage, and since then it has become a theatre for dramatic battles between the sport’s greatest climbers. Because of its steep gradients and the way the crowds pack tightly along the road, Alpe d’Huez is often compared to a stadium for cycling – riders push through walls of spectators as they make their way up.

Professionally mounted with white bevel-cut card and framed in classic black, this artwork arrives ready to hang.
